Job Description

Responsibilities may be quite diverse in a technical nature and will vary significantly depending on the unique needs of the role, U.S. experience and education requirements. Job assignments may be for the summer or for short periods throughout the school year.

The successful candidate will work with a team which develops and validates GitHub UPM sensor libraries for the Intel Internet of Things IoT Developer Kit. The UPM libraries are written mainly in C/C++ and provide developers control functions and APIs for popular sensors. The intern will support other engineers in their work to identify the most popular sensors used in IoT projects, read and interpret the datasheets that accompany those sensors, will design and write C/C++ sensor control functions along with Python and JavaScript bindings, will design and write tests, and will provide the examples and documentation necessary to use those sensors.


You must possess at least some of the minimum qualifications to be considered for this position. Experience listed below could be obtained through a combination of your school work/classes/research and/or relevant previous job and/or internship experiences.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be pursuing a bachelor’s in Computer Science, Engineering or related field

  • Minimum 3 months experience in C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Python

  • Minimum 3 months experience with Linux programming

  • Minimum 3 months experience building software from source using make or cmake

  • Minimum 3 months experience with Open Source Tools, e.g. Git, Javadoc, Doxygen, SWIG

  • Must have unrestricted right to work in the US without requiring Sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of low-level I/O protocols such as I2C, UART, PWM

  • Hobbyist/maker experience or prior exposure to IoT platforms e.g. Raspberry Pi, Arduino, Intel Galileo/Edison or other microcontrollers
