Intel Ethernet Performance/Virt. Software Application Engineer in Austin, Texas

Job Description

The DataCenter Connectivity Customer Enablement (DCCE) team is looking for a Network Software Engineer to enable and support customers of Intel's wired Ethernet products. This position would focus on customer enablement and support of wired Ethernet drivers, primarily in (but not limited to) virtualization environments and technologies spanning Linux and VMware. Over time the position is expected to grow into a performance optimization and testing role to assist in pre-sales activities, including but not limited to, proof of concepts. Would work closely with SW, HW, and FW development and validation as well as product marketing and business acceleration managers to help assure that Ethernet product designs and implementations meet requirements for targeted customer workloads.

This position will require a combination of working independently, with peers, design engineers, software engineers, and software architects to influence product features, reliability, supportability and ensure that customer needs and requirements are being addressed in a timely manner. Complex system-level issue debug, problem solving, multi-tasking, organization, and customer and stakeholder management skills are critical to success. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with customers of all skill levels (novice thru expert) will be essential for this role.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science

  • 3+ years of experience in a combination of the following:

  • Driver development and/or support background in VMware and/or Open Source operating systems (RHEL, SuSE, FreeBSD, Ubuntu, etc.)

  • Ethernet networking architecture, protocols, topologies, and networking products

  • Performance optimization and tuning

  • System level debug experience involving hardware, software, and firmware architecture

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the following:

  • Scripting languages (Python/Perl/Bash/Powershell)

  • Network protocol analyzers

  • Network traffic generators and benchmarks

  • Direct customer interaction in technical debug support role
