Job Description

We are seeking an energetic and experienced physical design manager to join our design team. In this position you will be working within the Scalable Performance CPU Development Group (SDG), developing a ground breaking high performance custom SOC. The Physical Design Engineering Second Level Manager is responsible for management and technical oversight of the SOC Physical Design team. In this role you will plan tasks and set priorities for the team, provide technical inputs and guidance, get results across multi-discipline boundaries, ensure an inclusive work environment, develop employees, and manage performance. You must have hands-on and in-depth knowledge of SOC physical design flow from high level design to synthesis, place and route, timing and power, to creating a design database that is ready for manufacturing.

Responsibilities will cover the following technical areas:

  • Floorplanning

  • Synthesis and Auto Place and Route

  • Static Timing Analysis and Closure

  • Functional Equivalence Verification

  • Full-chip Clocking

  • Full Chip Layout Verification

  • Full Chip Power Analysis and Convergence

  • Reliability Verification

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field plus 15 years of industry work experience, Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field plus 12 years of industry work experience, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field plus 10 years of industry work experience.

Experience:

  • 10 plus years of expert-level/technical leadership experience in physical design including synthesis, place-and-route, timing, verification, and all other aspects of block level and full chip convergence.

  • 5 plus years of experience managing (coaching and leading) SOC Physical Design

Skills:

  • Ability to lead, manage (including first-level managers) and drive high performance in the team

  • Ability to work effectively with cross-site teams and stakeholders to achieve results for the organization

  • Ability to provide oversight to subcontracting contingent workers as needed

  • Ability to work effectively with both internal and external teams/customers

  • Ability to recruit and build a team

  • Experience planning and setting objectives, achieving set goals and delivering to schedule

  • Experience tracking execution progress and enabling the team

  • Experience in performance management

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Facilitator of direct and open communication, and diversity of opinion

  • Ability to guide/mentor, grow and develop junior engineers

  • Working knowledge of IP-SOC delivery model

  • Experience working cross-discipline hand-off requirements, challenges and dependencies

  • In-depth knowledge of industry standard physical design tools and flows
