Intel Firmware/Hardware Engineer in Phoenix, Arizona

Job Description

The role will be a member of a virtual engineering team with members from IOTG, PSG and AIPG that will work on design studies, projects and execution to the defined deliverables for a US Government customer.

This team is funded as part of a US Government contract and will be a rolling and evolving effort (spiral development) with the dedicated engineering team moving between scoping new projects and executing on existing task order projects.

The engineering team will engage in design study pathfinding with the goal of moving projects into execution where they will work on architecting, engineering, system/SW development, building, testing/ validation, POC's, Pilots, and then deployment.

Some of the initial technology areas that team may investigate include Artificial for Cyber-Security, Edge Computing and Analytics, Mobile Edge Analytics with Ad-Hoc Networking Solutions, 5G Networking Project, IT Modernization, Technology Transfer and Exchange.

Conducts or participates in multidisciplinary research in the design, development, testing and utilization of information processing hardware and/or electrical components, mechanisms, materials, and/or circuitry, processes, packaging, and cabinetry for central processing units (CPUs) and/or peripheral equipment.

Prepares specifications, evaluates vendors, and analyzes test reports. Ensures products conform to standards and specifications. Develops plans and cost estimates and assesses projects to analyze risk.

Develops procedures, analysis and design for computer components, products, and systems. Initiates, guides, and coordinates overall design and development of new ideas and products. Responds to customer/client requests or events as they occur. Develops solutions to problems utilizing formal education and judgement.


  • Define strategic technical direction for proof of concepts, by engaging multi-functional organizations across Intel to meet task order requirements.

  • The Architect will document the requirements from stakeholders and ensure that documentation meets stakeholder requirements.

  • The architect will also communication with internal teams to ensure use of most pertinent Intel technologies for meeting stakeholder requirements

  • Drive the development of prototypes, demos, software development vehicles, responding to task order needs through appropriate best-known practices and procedures.

  • Lead a virtual team of silicon architects, silicon engineers, Software/Firmware engineers, to determine future use and insertion point for POCs/Technologies

This is an Intel Federal Position

This position involves work on a U.S. Government contract which may impose certain security requirements. The government may require that you certify your citizenship status. If you are not a U.S. citizen, the government may require you to pass a security check before you can be approved to work on the project. Bachelor's Degree or MS in Computer Science, Math, Engineering, or comparable major.

6+years of experience in the following areas:

  • Software programming such as Linux, Java, RTOS, C#, VB, etc.

  • Electronic Hardware / Firmware Design / Analysis knowledge and experience.

  • Electronic System Design & Analysis knowledge and experience.

  • Working knowledge of networks and systems

  • Developing SW in complex systems.

  • PCB hardware design using micro controller units & FPGA devices.

  • PCB design & PCB assembly verification, debug, troubleshooting & repair.

  • FPGA & CPLD design implementation for custom designed boards.

  • Xilinx, Altera or other FPGA experience.

  • Familiarity with Agile development practices.

  • Performing work and managing complex solutions.

  • Authoring, editing and presenting technical documents and proposals.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with technical and non-technical staff

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Intel firmware including Management engine, microcode, BIOS/UEFI, Core boot, etc.

  • Exceptional verbal, writing, and presentation skills.

  • Proven ability to communicate with technical and non-technical teammates and customers via multiple mediums including email, instant messaging, documentation, verbal conversations, and teleconferences.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills; Experience working on multiple concurrent projects.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Be independent and self-driven. Minimal Supervision.

  • Must be open to travel.
