Intel Laser Development Engineer in Phoenix, Arizona

Job Description

Become a member of the Assembly Test Technology Development Media, Inspection, Handling Systems, & Laser (MIHL) Module engineering team as a laser development engineer leading the discovery, development, and deployment of Intel's advanced chip packaging process technology.

In this position, you will be directly responsible for driving laser marking and micro drilling research and development for next generation semiconductor packaging technology. Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to, research and development of laser ablation fundamentals, material interaction, quality and reliability efforts. In addition, you will be engaging in planning, designing, testing and validating process equipment solutions to meet product specifications.

Laser Dev Engineers respond to customer requests or challenges, developing solutions to problems that meet process, quality and cost requirements. You will also help define the vision for Intel's future Laser marking and drilling technologies including IR, Green, UV lasers; opto-mechanical equipment, ultra-high precision motion systems, submicron level mark metrology and new types of 2D Matrix, human readable and graphical marking specifications. Laser Dev engineers develop to key customer requirements from platform specification to validation, deployment and proliferation to high volume manufacturing (HVM) sites.

Laser Dev Engineers need to possess strong physics (laser, ablation, material, optics), design of experiment, structured problem solving and statistics knowledge to enable them to plan and conduct experiments to characterize solutions throughout the product development life cycle. They also drive improvements in quality, reliability, cost, yield, process stability, productivity and safety/ergonomic managing variables such as material, method, equipment, environment and operations.

This is an entry level position and will be compensated accordingly.

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Experience listed below would be obtained through a combination of your school work/classes/research and/or relevant previous job and/or internship.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possess a Master's or PhD degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or related field,.

  • Minimum of 6 months of experience in1 or more of the following areas:

  • Understand of fundamental physical processes, troubleshoot complex ultra-high precision equipment across a variety of disciplines whether it is optical, laser, motion or electrical systems.

  • Understanding of statistical principles, process control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE).

  • Apply fundamental scientific and engineering principles to develop novel design solutions for high volume manufacturing processes.

  • Study of Ultrafast Laser Ablation and/or Laser Micromachining

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6 months of experience in1 or more of the following areas:

  • Fundamental understanding of semiconductor devices and packing technology.

  • Data Science and Statistics tools (Python, Numpy/Pandas, SQL, JMP, Minitab).

  • Motion systems background (High speed, high accuracy pick-n-place, vision systems).

  • Mechanical design (CAD, Solidwork, GD&T) and familiarity with laser ablation techniques (UV, IR, etc).
