Intel LTE-5G PHY DSP Kernel Development Engineer in San Diego, California

Job Description

The Intel Communications and Devices Group iCDG is looking for DSP Kernel Development Engineers at various levels to join our modem firmware development team at San Diego USA, to contribute to the micro-firmware development of LTE/5G modem layer 1 signal processing algorithms on vector DSP.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Design, development & verification of algorithmic kernels/micro-firmware on vector DSP for LTE/5G physical layer processing channel/parameter estimation, demodulation, feedback processing, interference handling

  • Perform complexity analysis of algorithms in terms of memory, cycles, parallelization and propose ISA improvements for efficiency

  • Contribute to all stages of micro-firmware development including algorithm breakdown, data layout definition, C/ASM implementation and bit-exact verification on DSP simulator/prototypes/FPGA

  • Define & implement highly optimal target specific intrinsic/primitive libraries in C/target assembly

  • Collaborate with System engineering, Hardware, Firmware and Verification teams across globe during micro-firmware design, development & verification

  • Define, implement & debug unit/subsystem test cases across a variety of test frameworks including creation of scripts, tools for memory/cycle/power analysis

  • Actively support pre-Si verification of developed micro-firmware on virtual platforms, FPGA & HW bring-up activities

  • Actively support the analysis & debugging of issues arising out of various system, field, conformance and operator verification campaigns


Bachelors with 1+ years of experience / Master's degree - with focus on Digital Communication / Signal processing

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Strong foundation in scalar/vector/SIMD/VLIW based DSP architectures

  • Experience in implementing/optimizing signal processing algorithms on Vector DSP/SIMD/GPU

  • Strong programming experience in C, Assembly and mixed C-Assembly for embedded/DSP applications

  • Strong working knowledge of block floating-point, fixed point implementation of signal processing algorithms

  • Strong analytic, problem solving & debugging skills

  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills in English

  • Quick learner, team player and self-driven

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in physical layer signal processing aspects of cellular radio standards such as 2G/3G/LTE/5G or 802.11a/c/n

  • Experience in algorithm design / numerical techniques

  • Experience in DSP benchmarking, core selection
