The 5G System Design Engineer builds state-of-the-art 5G wireless modem prototypes to demonstrate next-generation technologies.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Develop algorithm reference models for prototypes of 5G wireless baseband modem and/or machine learning technologies
Model, simulate, optimize, and verify digital modem sub-systems that are part of 5G prototype designs implemented in FPGA platforms
Characterize fixed-point performance and optimize fixed-point algorithms to improve performance, latency, RTL area, etc.
Create bit-accurate Python, C/C++ simulation models of digital modem sub-systems used for link-level performance characterization, DSP algorithm optimization, and FPGA verification
Collaborate with the standards team and system architects to translate communication models and algorithms into fixed-point reference models for prototype baseband modem designs
Support digital design, firmware, and RF teams with verification and bring-up of FPGA modem prototypes
Apply advanced problem solving to complex modem subsystems including PHY, RF, and lower stack implementations
Assess risks and identify issues & solutions to achieve program goals and project objectives in a timely & efficient manner
Escalate issues and drive resolution of technical issues with cross-functional teams
Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 4 years of experience or Masters of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 3 years of experience in digital communications theory, signal processing, random processes and/or computer-based link-level simulation and modeling
Experience with one OR more of the following: Python C/C++, Matlab, or other simulation & modeling tools/languages
Knowledge of communications systems, e.g., 5G, LTE, UMTS.
Experience with simulation & modeling of communications systems
Masters of Science or PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering with demonstrated technical leadership and a strong communications-system engineering background
Experience with design, verification, and debug of baseband wireless modems coded in RTL VHDL/Verilog and targeted for FPGA or ASIC, including debug in RTL simulation or lab environment
Familiarity with demodulation and decoding algorithms for OFDM systems
Prior experience with fixed-point modeling for hardware verification
Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Perl
Experience with revision-control systems such as GIT or Clearcase
Experience with Linux/Unix operating system
Knowledge of machine learning, deep learning, and/or neural networks
